What Are A Farmers Rights To Protect Its Livestock When It Comes To Roaming Dogs?

I have been looking for a few websites that mention the farmers rights specifically when it comes to dogs.
    Refer to http://www.vocm.com/news-info.asp?id=27536
Id like to know my family’s “Owners of the 3 young dogs” rights when it comes to this “act of defence”

    1. SC Says:

Depends on your local regulations so looking up info from different jurisdictions will probably be of little help. Generally, farmers have a right to protect their livestock by shooting dogs on the property – they don’t have to prove that the dogs were actually harassing or killing the stock. Generally dog owners have the right to keep their dogs carefully contained on their own property. Once the dog leaves the owner’s property, generally the owner is in violation of the law (most places, even the ‘country’ have laws regarding allowing dogs to roam) and the dogs become subject to removal either by animal control or by gunshot if found on a farmer’s property. You should call your local jurisdiction to find out more about the laws in your local area.

    2. Owned by a Collie Says:

Farmers ( whether there allowed to or not ) usually shoot the feral ( roaming, vicous, rabies infested, blood sucking, no jk) dogs

Dogs are suppose to be useful animals. When left to roam around hunting other domestic livestock, they become very dangerous and they may also catch rabies virus and disseminate it among other animals. According to different countries laws, such dogs should be shot down to minimize their danger.

The sites to look for would be either the hunting regs of your area or livestock protection regs
Around here we can shoot any predators that are endangering our livestock that includes any animals on my property
It is your responsibility to protect your dogs which includes keeping them controlled or fenced so that they are not perceived as a danger to livestock
When the safety of my animals is at question I am not going to take the time to do a personality test on your free roaming dogs to see if they are hungry or merely curious
