I have a show heifer that was born september 7th of 2007, shes registered and i have the papers for her, im only 16 and ths is the first time ive done this. i showed her 2 years in a row and now i want to sell her. she probably weighs around a thousand pounds my guess. My Ag. teacher said shes worth about 1700. but i hear the price of beef is horrible. how much money would she bring this week at the sale?

Salebarn/market price is not the same as pricing a registered show-quality breeding heifer.
1000# heifer, using yesterday’s price at our local salebarn, would have brought about 85 cents a pound, so about $850 — basically slaughter price.
If you want to run her through a salebarn, call and ask when their next heifer & bred cow sale is, and sell her then — she’ll bring more.
Or advertise her in your local paper or put up flyers at your local feed store.
Personally, if I were looking to buy, I wouldn’t pay more than $1500 for her and I’d expect her to be confirmed bred, but if I were selling I wouldn’t take less than $1200 for her not bred.
And she NEEDS to be bred ASAP, if she goes much longer she may not breed at all. The way it is she’s going to be 3 when she calves for the first time and she should have calved at 2 years of age.
