How Long Will Fresh Meat And Poultry Last In The Refrigerator Without Being Frozen.?

I bought the meat and poultry yesterday 1/5/08 but want to season and marinate them before freezing. If I keep them in the grocery store packaging in the refrigerator will they last till monday 1/7/08, at which time I’ll marinate them and put them in freezer bags into the freezer?

The health department recommends keeping meat for no longer than 7 days at 41 F, and no longer than 3 days at 45 F. Meat should not be stored above 45 F.
It will be fine to freeze it after 2 days. (after 4 days I wouldn’t bother to freeze it).

      about a week.

hmm well our grocery store meat is always iffy, so i have to freeze it immediatly or it will be stinking in 2-3 days.
when i marinated meat before freezing i’d put it in the freezer bag with italian dressing(chicken) over night and then straight into the freezer dressing and all. when it thawed out for when i needed it for dinner, it would continue to marinate up until cooked. amazing flavor and very easy, i guess you could call it “twice marinated chicken”
if i were you i’d freeze it tomorrow night, no later or you run the risk of having spoiled meat.

It depends with all packages of meat/poultry. Take a look at the label on the package-it will give you a date to be sold by or a date to be frozen by. (Both are essentially the same.) Either cook your meat/poultry that day or freeze it on that date.

usually 2-3 days but it depends on the sell by date and when it was cut.
